Community Benefits Live TV Auction!

Phone bank volunteer Devin Millholland tried to learn more information on an item for a bidder during last night's live TV Auction, sponsored by IU East SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) and WCTV.

Your Hosts

Longtime WCTV host Misty Hollis and newcomer Jessie Irby opened the broadcast.

Auction Nerve Center

From the control room, director Nick Poling tried to keep a lid on things, with help from production assistant Dara Chamberlain, our board president Mark Linderman, administrative assistant Diane Lucas and former Volunteer of the Year Ed Hoffman.

Rung Up

Phone bank volunteers were busy all evening.

Red Wolf Rundown

Misty and Jessie interview Rob Zinkan of IU East on the items they donated for the Auction.

Auction Behind the Scenes

Misty Hollis and I talking during a break in the live broadcast. The more I listened to Misty's producing advice, the smarter I became.

Mandi Michaels of G101.3 and Michael Sweigart carried the live broadcast on into the night as cameraperson Amber Lehman squares her shot. Mandi hosted live for three straight hours and was as upbeat when she started as when we signed off.

Lensmen

What's great about community television is that your volunteers come from all over; high school, college, the community. Thanks to the more than 30 volunteers that turned out to help, as well as the many Wayne County bidders that made this Auction a success.

October 2008 Board Minutes

Call to Order - 11:05 a.m. by President Mark Linderman.

Present: Waketha Downs, Daryl Greene, Ed Hoffman, Mark Linderman, Barb Orbik, Sharon Palmer, Larry Price, and Valerie Shaffer.
Staff: John Dalton, John Schuerman and Diane Lucas.

Approval of Minutes
September Minutes: Barb Orbik moved, with Ed Hoffman giving the second, that the Board unanimously accepts the minutes of September 9, 2008. Minutes approved.

Treasurer’s Report
Barb Orbik presented the Treasurer’s Report. Barb noted that the report reflects the third-quarter payment from the City and the $1000 membership fee from United Way. Ed Hoffman moved, with Waketha Downs giving the second, and the Treasurer’s Report was approved.

Director’s Report
John Dalton reported that a few more auction items have come it recently. Last week, there were only 20 items donated. We continue to accept items.
John reported that Comcast, RP&L and WCTV met in regards to the RP&L weather channel becoming part of the programming on WCTV Channel 11. Comcast recently shut off the weather radar, which RP&L was sponsoring, but indicated that they would like to help facilitate WCTV airing the weather radar. John reported Comcast offered lines and, possibly, additional equipment. Comcast also told John they would like to get WCTV dedicated fiber for our forward signal.

John is still working to get capital equipment money from Comcast, and is waiting for more information from the legal firm that agreed to look into the matter. John reported that public access centers are still watching for the outcome of the Comcast case in Michigan.
We are still working on the Model T video and the Starr-Gennett Walk of Fame video. WCTV recently did production work for the United Way, Junior Achievement, and broadcast two live volleyball matches for IU East. New projects will include a commemorative DVD for the Reid Hospital move. The live coverage of the Candidates Forum and Election Returns are coming up.
We recently received a $1500 grand from the Wayne County Foundation for the Wayne County U TV show.

New Business
With Stephanie Strait’s leaving, Barb Orbik has agreed to fill the Vice Presidential slot. Larry Price moved, with Ed Hoffman giving the second, and the motion carried. Robin Henry has agreed to take the Treasurer spot vacated by Barb Orbik. Ed Hoffman moved, with Waketha Downs giving the second, and the motion carried.

Good of the Order
John Dalton thanked Barb Orbik and Robin Henry for their willingness to take over new offices.

Adjournment - 11:25 a.m.
